ESPN’s “Chink in the Armor” gets no free pass. At all.
Remember Don Imus?
Remember when he called the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team “nappy headed
hoes” a few years back?…Everyone jumped on way too early.
No. Just, no.
It doesn’t matter that Don Imus kept his job. I still think he should not have.
“I didn’t know it was offensive” is not an excuse.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve heard more offensive statements on the internet. ESPN is not 4chan, YouTube or Tumblr. Even the New York Post couldn’t get away with a headline like that.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never seen someone reprimanded this quickly before.
There’s a first time for everything. And I personally think it’s about time. Maybe if black people weren’t so quick to forgive every form or disrespect hurtled their way, (blatant or otherwise) maybe they’d be taken more seriously in the world perspective.
But instead, it’s all forgive and forget?
NO, YOU C’MON SON.
I don’t know what you learned where you come, but around here the saying is “Turn the other cheek and I break your fuckin chin”
Respect due at all times. No exceptions.
Jeremy Lin? I don’t even give a fuck about that Mango Colored Sentinel, muthafucka. This isn’t about him. This is about people thinking it’s okay to have a job saying stupid shit and too many people think it’s okay.
Anyone that claims to respect Lin’s abilities on the basketball court AT THE VERY LEAST should not refer to him or his people as no “chink”.
The anchor and the writer were ignorant publicly, and they got corrected publicly.
End of Line.
That post about the blacks being quick to forgive every bold statement that comes their was is the most ill-informed statement that I have ever heard.
The reaction and protests to Abner Louima, Amadou Diallo, Hank Williams Jr., the Million Man March, Sean Bell, and even Don Imus were all serious.
The problem is that whenever the public sees black protesting, they assume the community always assembles to make a big issue over a small thing which it is not. The other problem is that the support for those aforementioned issues is entirely black.
It was rare seeing any other race in the crowds or even on the internet supporting those aforementioned causes. “The blacks are making a big deal over an unarmed man being shot over 40 times by more than 3 cops. The blacks are making a big deal over a man being sodomized and beaten in the bathroom over multiple officers.”
Where was everyone else’s support at the time?
But now because a rising basketball player was racially slandered in an article’s headline, every race is chanting kumbaya towards his defense?
Fuck out of here with that logic.
There has been no race on earth that has made civil rights issues and racial issues come to light more than the African American community past or present.
Don’t bring that bullshit around here making this seem that this is going to change the attitude amongst people that have a job saying stupid and offensive shit.
This happened on numerous occasions within the black community and they always go in with crowds and live demonstrations.
Look at how much work the black community has been doing in recent years with protests against civil rights issues. The support is largely from their own race.
But NY’s messiah get’s slandered in an article and even Samoans are calling to his defense.
There is no “revolution.”
Amen.
